Where is The Best Place To Purchase A New Bed? (Online?)

Buying a new mattress is not something people do lightly. Before they do the purchase, they do several types of research, comparing, learning all the features, benefits and of course the price.

But, we have come to a dilemma – where is the best place to buy your bed? Is it from an online store, malls, showrooms or brick and mortar stores?

Every store offers something that may work for you. You need to decide whether you want to go and see the mattress (and test it) for yourself, or actually, believe the reviews and the information you get from the official website and expect it delivered to your doorstep within the next few days (in most cases free of charge).

We decided to analyze every option and see what the ultimate way to buy a new bed, and all the pros and cons are. Deciding that you’ll get your bed online or from an actual store, is the first step towards making things less complicated.

No matter what option you choose, focus on that (if it’s online, check reviews, payments options, materials, and so on; if it’s from a store, ask crucial questions about warrantee, manufacture, longevity, sit or lay on it, etc.).

What Are the Different Places to Purchase a Mattress

Buy at Store or Online

Online

If you are like us, then you see online shopping as a gift from Heavens.

This is an excellent option for people who genuinely don’t have the time to go from one store or showroom to another, from one mall to another, listen to salespeople trying their best to sell a mattress (that in some cases isn’t even that good).

Online shopping is an excellent idea if you want to save time and nerves, or if you aren’t into interaction with people; this way you can check every info you need to know on the official website and learn everything you need to know within several minutes.

This new concept is known as a mattress in a box. See our comprehensive mattress in a box guide.

Plus, you can always read honest reviews (like ours) and get the perfect picture about a mattress from people that bought it and used it. Most online stores are doing their best to offer their clients something different – a revolutionary design, excellent features, comfortable layers, removable covers, natural materials that are great for people with allergies and so on.

On top of that, have you decide to purchase your bed online, in almost every case you will get free shipping. The cherry on top is that most online stores are allowing you to have the mattress for 100 nights and then return it (if it doesn’t fit for you) with a chance of a full refund.

The only con here is that you cannot try the mattress yourself, but if you’re willing to take this “risk” and trust the company and the reviewers, then this option is quite excellent.

Brick and Mortar Stores

This is a great place to get yourself a new bed, because you get to see it with your eyes, touch it with your hands and lay down feeling the layers with your own body.

This is the ideal option for those of you who prefer to experience things by themselves, instead to believe strangers on the Internet.  Another thing which is excellent about brick and mortar stores is that there will always be a salesperson that will help you and answer whatever question you have.

Perhaps they will even suggest you a mattress once you let them know your preferences.

Besides that, you may end up buying pillows or a duvet made of the same materials like the bed. Many people prefer this option because they want to be sure that they will get customer support wherever they call or visit the store (this may not always happen with an online store; in some cases, you’ll have to wait for an e-mail response).

The con about this option is that the salesperson may try to convince you to buy a not so affordable mattress, assuring you that it’s the best one they have and that will provide you with the ultimate comfort.

You may end up spending far more than you planned. The bed may felt super comfy when you laid on it in the store, but it doesn’t mean that it’ll remain that way after you purchase it and have a more relaxed rest on it at home. So, make sure you don’t get tricked or pushed over.

Showrooms

Purchase Mattress at Showroom

Some online stores have showrooms because they know how important the physical aspect of buying a new bed is for their clients.

  • The pro about a showroom is that there is usually a big range of mattresses, so if you went to check a particular brand, you would end up checking a few more and maybe finding something even better.

Again, in a showroom, you will be able to see, touch and lay on the bed and feel the layers and check what position feels the best. This way you can check features such as bounce, sinking, firmness, and fabrics.

  • But, the cons here are that you will have to commute to this showroom (which may not be close to where you live). Also, keep in mind that salespersons that work in showrooms work on commission; their salary depends on how much they sell.

So be prepared for some really persistent sellers that will continuously try to convince you to buy something; if they aren’t able to sell you a more expensive product, they will try to sell you anything.

If this isn’t a problem for you (some people don’t like nagging and persistent salespersons), then a showroom is a great option for you.

Department Stores and Malls

Shopping at the Mall for Beds

This is another good option for people that want to test their bed before investing their money. The great thing about department stores and malls is that there are so many out there that you can check one every day.

In case you already know what you’re looking for then it’s fantastic, you’ll get it without too much thinking, but if you only want a new mattress and have no idea what you’re looking for, then this can be a tiring option.

  • Here is why: you will enter this store, and there will be three to four choices which let’s be real is not even nearly enough. You may get nervous and confused, but this should not worry you because there will be a salesperson to help you, but the thing is, usually these people aren’t specialized for mattresses only. They will tell you just the necessary info, but often, department stores sell mattresses that are so similar that you will end up buying one which won’t necessarily work for you.

In most cases department stores and malls offer mattresses made of fabrics that contain chemicals and aren’t hypoallergenic, often smell, don’t provide cooling effects and so on. Be careful when you visit these stores, and if the salesperson isn’t informed, or if the product range is poor, you better go to a different, specialized mattress store.

What Place Should You Purchase Your Bed From?

Shop In-Stores If:

  • You care to see the bed with your own eyes and test it by sitting or laying on it. The physical contact is super relevant in this case and if you don’t easily trust online reviews always choose this option.
  • You want to be sure whether a particular product offers everything you’ve read about online.
  • You are into traditional shopping and care to have a proper customer service whenever you call or go to the store.

Shop Online If:

  • You hate the idea of going from one store to another. You love shopping from the comfort of your home and enjoy getting things delivered to your doorstep.
  • You aren’t a fan of persistent salespersons that will try to sell you just anything because in most cases they work on commission.
  • You don’t have the time to go to different department stores or malls, and you’d rather trust online reviews rather than a seller.
  • You want to get 100 nights sleep trial and get a full refund in case you decide to return the bed.

Which Company is Great For You?

At the end of the day, you decide where you will invest your money. The top store is the one that offers you a mattress that is suitable for your weight, height, preferences such as sleeping positions (stomach, side sleeping or back), whether their bed provides pressure free points, natural materials, level of firmness and so on.

No matter what company it is, if it sells online or in a store, always make sure you get the most information you need. Remember, if one mattress was bad for one person, it doesn’t mean that it will be for you as well.

Our Final Thoughts

We live in times when we get to choose how we’ll do our shopping. Stores and online stores have pros and cons, and it’s only up to you to decide what way you will pick to purchase your next mattress.

This should not be a rushed decision, so take your time, read, test and deduct until you have the one final product that will be worthy of your money and time.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
